I think that the poison analogy in the post is well aimed.

I prefer my analogy. A guy is holding you at gun point, telling you you can either kill yourself by shooting yourself in the head, or by overdosing on some pills.
Instead, I say "I am not killing myself. If you want me dead, YOU are going to have to shoot me."
Either way I'm dead, but at least I'm not being an active participant in my murder.
That's one way of looking at it. Or, you could choose the gun option and then turn it on your captor.
